Happy Winter Solstice, a little early...

Monday, 21 Dec 2009, is the Winter Solstice, the first day of winter, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, the day that heralds the return of the sun.

Winter came a few days early on the east coast with (dum dum dum dum... ominous music...) The Blizzard of 2009! (oooo, scary screams in the background) It's easier to deal with two feet of snow if you don't have to go anywhere except back to bed.

Here's a short clip of the view from my kitchen. The neighbors decorated their back deck. The lights are twinkling in the blowing snow. Ahhh...

If you don't see a video, go to

  1. What a gorgeous video, Joan! What a wonderful view for you and hubby, and the snow was a nice added touch to it, too!! Thanks for sharing it with us. I hope you'll both be safe and warm and don't lose your power. Will say a quick prayer you don't.

  2. We're getting pummeled here, too. Still snowing and I imagine we'll have a poopload by morning.

Joan: I wish you gave commentary for that (brief) video.... "This is Joan from A Short in the Cord...Reporting on the Blizzard of 2009...."

  3. So far we haven't lost power, Taggie. The sun is shining this morning.

Jen: you are a genius! Why didn't I think of that?
